Carl applies disruptive technologies and Next Practice ways of working, which are more start-up than corporate, to solve intractable problems and deliver breakthrough business change.

About Carl

Carl is a Partner at Arthur D. Little, based in our London office, and co-leads our “Digital Transformation & Analytics” Practice in the United Kingdom. Carl specializes in addressing complex business problems and game-changing opportunities where there is a significant digital and technology component, and often where the approach is both disruptive and counter to conventional wisdom.

Working in both consulting and line-executive roles, and engaging collaboratively with teams from multiple disciplines, Carl has led the strategy for and delivered breakthrough change in sectors including: education, energy, government, legal, logistics, media, private equity, retail, telecoms and transportation. He has often engaged where conventional wisdom alone is believed to be insufficient for the business challenge or opportunity, or has already been tried and failed.

Carl is author of Next Practice ways of thinking and working which has helped teams achieve breakthrough results.  Here, “next” applies across two dimensions; first, business approaches designed from the ground up to help in the digital age of complexity, uncertainty, disruption and new possibility; and second, practices which aid inquiry into not only what has worked well in the past, but what could work better now.

With over 25 years of experience, Carl has helped crack numerous intractable problems with market-leading clients and led multiple strategy and transformation cases across industries including education, energy, financial services, government, law, logistics, media, pharmaceutical, retail, telecoms and transport. Carl is a Fellow of the British Computer Society, prior chairman of its Futures Group, author of multiple Next Practice leadership techniques and co-author of the VPEC-T Systems thinking framework.
