Support the re-alignment of a leading communication equipment manufacturer towards a new market environment

Challenge

The client, a leading communication equipment manufacturer specialised in military equipment and systems, had acquired the communication division of the key European competitor and was facing a serious downturn in their key market due to lack of funding and presence of new players. The two events drove the new CEO towards a radical change in the company strategy and subsequent market positioning. Arthur D. Little has been asked to support the deployment of the strategy and the design of the new organisation and key processes.

Approach

Arthur D. Little deployed its methodology including:

  • Initial assessment - where the organisational readiness, coherence with strategy and the process effectiveness were evaluated
  • Visioning workshop – involving all the top managers and their first line, where the team designed the macro-solution and launched the homework teams
  • Homework – where teams developed the organisational and process design required to comply with the new strategic intent
  • X-fert workshop – where the solutions proposed by the homework teams were compared and integrated in a final organisational design

Value

As result of the project, the company was able to address the new market challenges, to fully integrate the acquired competitor and to re-launch its technological leadership.
