Assessing corporate governance at public research institutes

The responsible minister asked Arthur D. Little to assess the corporate governance and board decision-making of four European public research institutes in diverse fields


The challenge was to assess the current performance and identify future standards with respect to corporate governance for each of the institutes.


Through desk research, interviewing and best practice analysis, we identified the strengths and weaknesses of current corporate governance arrangements and decision-making.


We delivered a corporate governance framework for the institutes: it was integrated into their management contract with the government.
