Arthur D. Little appoints Hasan Shafi as Partner in Energy & Utilities practice
April 2021

Arthur D. Little (ADL) today announced that Hasan Shafi has joined the company as a Partner in its ENUT (Energy & Utilities) practice. With 25 years’ experience across sectors including Energy, Chemicals, Resources, Agri-Business and Industrial, Hasan has worked as a senior executive and business developer around the world, with a particular focus on the Asia-Pacific region. He is experienced in developing long-range energy transition strategies and executing corporate transformations. He is also passionate about the competitive advantages of digital. He will be based out of the company’s Dubai office.

Prior to joining ADL, Hasan was a Partner at Kearney South East Asia, having previously worked as a Principal at A.T. Kearney Australia (2000-2010). From 2014 to 2016, he was a Principal at Bain & Company, and from 2010-2014, he was VP of Corporate Development and Planning at specialty chemicals company Nuplex Industries.

Thomas Kuruvilla, Managing Partner, ADL Middle East, comments: “I’m sure that Hasan’s extensive experience across multiple industries and territories will prove to be a great asset to ADL’s ENUT practice. In particular, as a pragmatic strategist who has designed and delivered large scale transformation programs for companies in the oil & gas and chemicals sectors, Hasan is a natural fit for his role in ENUT. I look forward to working with him as part of our team here in the Middle East.”

Hasan Shafi, Partner at ADL, adds: “As with every market today, the energy and utilities sector is going through a major upheaval, with climate change in particular acting as a driving force. Oil & gas markets have been subject to a series of damaging price fluctuations, while wind and solar continue to become ever more popular methods of energy generation. At the same time, utilities are still adjusting to both new types of consumer demand and the challenges of distributing power in the digital age. The ENUT sector needs to develop business models that reflect these changes, and I believe that ADL has a key role to play in making this happen.”

Hasan has an MBAE from the University of Michigan, USA, a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from The University of Newcastle, Australia, and a BSc degree in Aeronautical Engineering from the Middle East Technical University, Ankara, Turkey.
