Car ownership still important despite mobility movement, finds Arthur D. Little

This article is about Arthur D. Little’s Global Automotive Study, a follow on from its 2015 study, which revealed that car desire and ownership remain strong and drivers are willing to embrace alternative drivetrains, however trust in autonomous vehicles has declined. Klaus Schmitz, a Partner at Arthur D. Little is quoted as saying, “While attachment to car ownership remains high, meaning the overall automotive market will remain stable, the switch to alternative drivetrains and new mobility options will disrupt manufacturers, with EV driver demand exceeding currently planned capabilities and ecosystem readiness.” Wolf-Dieter Hoppe, a Partner at Arthur D. Little is also quoted saying: “Drivers in all countries we surveyed except China are becoming much more sensitive around private data. In the long run, protecting this data will become a key competitive differentiator for manufacturers and providers of mobility solutions.”
