Robert is an award-winning energy transition strategic advisor and thought leader, with over 30 years of experience in investment banking and strategic consulting. He has written extensive research and consulted on the energy industry, particularly clean energy, energy policy, the energy transition, new business model evolution, clean technology, fund structuring, socially responsible investments (ESG), climate change economics, and sustainability.

Prior to joining ADL, Robert was managing director and COO of the Clean Energy Practice at FTI Consulting, driving the Energy Transition strategic consulting and advisory business proposition.

Before joining FTI, Robert was a Partner and the Director of Research at MAKE Consulting, a leading specialist renewables advisory firm. At MAKE, Robert was responsible for all aspects of market forecasting, economic & strategic analysis, supply chain, and technology analyses of renewable and conventional energy systems.

Prior to that, Robert spent 20 years as an investment banker, with the last 10 years covering the clean energy sector. He served as the Global Head of HSBC’s top-ranked Clean Technology Research team, covering the utility, wind, solar, battery storage, electric vehicle, energy efficiency, biofuels, and synfuels sectors.

Before HSBC, Robert worked for JP Morgan, Morgan Stanley, and UBS. He is ACCA qualified and has run his own consulting practice. He has a strong financial and advisory background, with experience in market forecasts and industry benchmarking, strategic market entry, and due diligence, as well as capital raising, mergers & acquisitions, and valuations.

His project experience includes advising on renewable and conventional energy technology, fund structuring, investments and economics, corporate strategy formulation, supply and demand forecasts/evaluations, strategic market entry & exit, capital raising, balance-sheet restructuring, mergers & acquisitions, advising on renewable energy offtake arrangements and PPAs, technology and economics, due diligence reviews, and energy policy.

Robert has built, managed, and successfully led consulting and research teams in multiple locations. He’s also well known across the renewables industry and frequently speaks at or chairs renewable energy conferences. He is often sought for his views by leading media outlets on energy issues.
