Upstream technology study
Benchmarking upstream-technology spending of an American multinational energy corporation.
Challenge
The client wanted an update on how technology spending and related metrics compare to those found in similar energy companies. This information was expected to help the client ensure that its technology dollars were well spent and provided the maximum opportunity to help them grow in the future.
Approach
- Arthur D. Little completed this benchmarking study by collecting data from the client and other large-scale oil companies with questions related to technology-spending metrics and strategies in the upstream divisions of large oil companies.
- We developed, summarized, and analyzed all data collected during the interviews, and then compiled and presented to the client’s top management a report containing our findings on technology metrics and comparing them to the relevant metrics of other benchmarks.
Value
The client used the results of the study to justify and enhance its own R&D spending in this area.
