Fuel Distribution Portfolio Strategy
Arthur D. Little supported a multi-country fuel distribution company in the development of its portfolio strategy, assessing competitive positioning and recommending to refocus its regional business.
Challenge
The client had commercialization and distribution operations of liquid fuels and GNV in six countries: Colombia, Chile, Ecuador, Peru, Mexico and Panama. In recent years, the client had increased its international presence through acquisitions and wanted to re-evaluate their strategy for the Chile, Ecuador, Peru and Mexico markets.
Approach
We adopted a pragmatic approach based on an assessment of strategic positioning by country, identification of growth opportunities (organic and M&A), strategy development and value generation estimation via a financial modelling exercise.
Value
Our final recommendations made the argument for further, targeted expansion strategies to be pursued in Colombia and Panama and detailed the recommended investment and divestment initiatives in a comprehensive business model and implementation roadmap.
